Who We are
We strive to build capacity, promotes recognition and support for local communities' traditional governance and conservation in systems like Kaya forests of the Mijikenda people of coastal Kenya and some areas within Mangrove forests. These areas are important for biodiversity conservation, ecosystem functions, and maintaining cultural diversity and local livelihoods. Yet they are continuously facing threats (including artisan and large-scale mining) that undermine their functionality and long standing governance structures.
What we Believe In
Believe that ecosystems are interconnected and Source-to-Sea (S2S) approach to conservation which focuses on understanding and managing the interconnectedness between terrestrial and marine environments. Recognizing that actions on land, such as pollution or land use practices, can significantly impact marine ecosystems. The approach is embedded on Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Target 3, also known as “30x30”, calls for effective protection and management of 30% of the world’s terrestrial, inland water and coastal and marine areas by the year 2030.
